Wayne Gretzky holds or shares over 60 NHL records, and was named Greatest Player of All-Time by The Hockey News in 1998. The numbers are stunning: 50 goals in 39 games, 2,856 points in 1,485 career games, most points in a season with 212, most goals in a season with 92 - the list goes on and on. But perhaps there is no greater recognition of his on-ice brilliance than becoming the first NHL player to have his number, 99, retired by every team.

While Gretzky's playing career ended in 1999, his contributions to hockey did not end there. After his election to the NHL Hall of Fame, he became minority owner and managing partner of the Phoenix Coyotes in 2000, eventually guiding the team from behind the bench as Head Coach. In addition to his leadership roles with the Coyotes, Gretzky led Team Canada to Olympic Gold as Managing Director in 2002. Gretzky gracefully stepped down as coach of the Coyotes amid ownership uncertainty in 2009.

Gretzky has continued his involvement in sports, business and charity with many endeavors, including the Wayne Gretzky Foundation, Wayne Gretzky Estates Winery, Canadian Ambassador to the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver, and partnerships with sponsors including Breitling, EA Sports, Bigelow Tea, Skechers, TD Bank, and Verizon.
